When was the Subaru WRX First Introduced?

The Subaru WRX was first introduced as a trim level for the Impreza in 1992.  WRX stands for “World Rally eXperimental,” and this original incarnation featured rally technology such as all-wheel drive, a stiffened suspension, and a turbocharged engine.  By its fourth generation in 2014, Subaru started selling the WRX under its own nameplate, rather than a trim option for the Impreza.
